BREAKING NEWS: 8/27/2006
Delta Comair Flight 5191 Crash, Blue Grass Airport

On August 27, 2006, Comair flight 5191 crashed during take off at the Blue Grass airport in Lexigton, Kentucky. FAA Investigators hope to find the reason Comair plane chose the wrong runway.

The commuter jet and its 50 occupants ended up on Runway 26 The flight was to take off on the longer Runway 22, the airport's 7,000-foot-long main strip. Instead the plane tried to use Runway 26 only 3,500 feet-long. Aviation experts say the CRJ-100 would have needed 5,000 feet to fully get off the ground. 49 of the 50 passengers were killed.

Officals are calling this the worst airplane crash since Nov. 12, 2001 when American Airlines Flight 587 crashed into a neighborhood in New York City.

Our firms are currently investigating claims arising from this tragic incident. If you had a loved one or friend affected by this catastrophic event please contact us today.

The modern world is connected by the miracle of aviation. Without the airlines that carry millions of people and tons of cargo each day to businesses, homes, or vacation spots, the global economy would quickly collapse. The vast interconnected network of flight plans, traffic controllers, and weather stations make traveling by air easier each day, and the newest planes can move more people faster than the Wright Brothers ever dreamt.

Unfortunately, as aviation technology becomes more sophisticated it is more and more likely that mishaps will eventually occur. These mishaps are often corrected on the ground during routine maintenance, but sometimes easily fixed problems go overlooked, often with devastating consequences. Without proper oversight of construction, repair, and maintenance, flying large airlines or small commuters alike is sometimes a terrifying experience.

The dangers of large machines with large amounts of toxic and flammable fuel that fly at high altitudes over population centers are obvious even to a causal observer. Air travel is as convenient as it is dangerous, and accidents always happen. If an aviation accident has shattered your life or the life of someone you know you need to contact Steigerwalt & Associates without delay. We have the knowledge, experience, and compassion to dedicate ourselves to your cause. Consult us today.

BREAKING NEWS:
Chalk's Ocean Airways Grumman G-73T Turbine Mallard Crashes Off Miami Beach

On December 19, 2005, a Chalk's Ocean Airways Grumman G-73T Turbine Mallard crashed off the shore in Miami Beach, Florida, killing 20 people consisting of two crewmembers and 18 passengers, including three infants. The plane had just taken off from Miami to the island of Bimini in the Bahamas. Eyewitnesses to the accident report that the plane was flying low after take off and was trailing smoke and fire before it broke apart and exploded.

The world of private aviation is one that is both exciting and dangerous; it combines the adventure of traveling the skies with the freedom of traveling anywhere at any time. Private pilots must spend vast amounts of time and training in order to achieve the first level of certification, and many thousands of hours and dollars more to become even more advanced.

Owning a private aircraft is also an expensive undertaking. Ground care, maintenance, fuel, insurance, and garaging are extremely costly, so much so that owning a plane is prohibitively expensive for all but the richest people.

Sometimes in order to cut corners airplane owners, pilots, and ground technicians will skimp on routine repair checks or other necessary requirements. This may save a few dollars but can ultimately cost more in pain and suffering.

Whether in the air or on the ground, contact the offices of Steigerwalt & Associates immediately if you have been involved in a private airplane accident. You have a right to collect damages against those responsible and begin to put your life back together. Consult an attorney today.

Commercial Airline Accidents - Lawyers and Attorneys

The modern world could not exist without commercial aviation. The gears of modern industry require the transport of millions of people and millions of tons of cargo every day in order to survive. This industry is the backbone of civilization in the 21 st century, and without it our world would seem a much smaller place.

The fact is that most major airlines in the United States operate under federal bankruptcy protection. Their insolvency is mostly derived from the extremely competitive and often capricious airline price wars, but this lack of funds often filters down to the most important levels. Maintenance and repair are usually the first aspects to suffer when the bottom line is on the line, and the once safe skies are now fraught with riskier flights and overworked and underpaid crews.

It is the duty of every airline to ensure the safety of not only their passengers, but also the crews and people on the ground. If the negligence or irresponsibility of a commercial airline has negatively affected you or someone you love, you need to consult the offices of Steigerwalt & Associates today. You should not have to suffer for someone else’s mistake.

Military Airplane Accident Information

Ever since the first canvas and wood biplanes flew over the trenches of France in the First World War, virtually every government on earth has striven to keep up with the newest trends in military aviation. Monoplanes replaced biplanes, jets replaced propellers, and now supersonic stealth fighters are the news of the day. The first airplanes were little more than glorified kites with engines and machine guns attached; now warplanes can drop precision guided munitions from thousands of feet in the air.

Increased sophistication leads to increased mishaps and accidents. Modern military aircraft push the limits of tolerance for both pilot and machine, often with devastating consequences. Every airshow, airbase, or transport flight is an opportunity for disaster, especially if the crews of these planes are distracted or overworked, or if unscrupulous contractors provide our brave fighting men and women with faulty equipment.

The litigation surrounding military aviation accidents is notoriously complex. Servicepeople cannot sue their branch or the government, and innocent civilians affected by military mishaps face a long uphill battle between federal agencies and contractors who attempt to lay blame elsewhere. That is why you need the experienced, dedicated, and professional attorneys at Steigerwalt & Associates on your side. We know how to deal with the military, government, and defense contractors, and we will not rest until justice is served. Contact us today.

Aviation Accident Reports and Information

In recent months, a few notorious airline crashes have dominated the headlines around the world. A few of the more infamous and deadly crashes are:

  • West Caribbean Airways Flight Number 708 An MD-80 from Panama City to Fort de France suffered failures in both engines on August 16, 2005 and crashed at 7000 ft/min into a swampy area along the Columbian/Venezuelan border, killing all 160 people on board. The cause of the engine failure is still under investigation.
  • Helios Airways Flight Number 522 On August 14, 2005This 737 traveling to Athens on the way to Prague reported problems with the air conditioning system, and half an hour later Greek F-16 fighters attempted to intercept the plane. The fighter pilots could not observe the captain but the first officer appeared unconscious. The plane began to descend, then climb, then apparently run out of fuel and crash 40 km north of Athens. The crash killed all 121 people on board and is still under investigation.
  • Mandala Airlines Flight Number 091 On September, 5 2005, this 737 flight to Jakarta crashed into a residential area during the initial climb and killed 117 people on board and an additional 47 on the ground due bad weather, although this crash is still under investigation.

Aviation Accident Laws & News

A major story broke on September 14, 2005 Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines, two major airlines in the United States filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection. This means that most of the major airlines in the United States are now operating in bankruptcy.

Before the final announcement of bankruptcy, Delta Air Lines conceded that it had lost almost $6 billion dollars since 2001. The airline sited the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the resulting traveling slump as the root cause of their insolvency, although airlines in general operate on a very thin profit margin. Most financial experts believed that airlines lost most of their protection against price wars and travel discounts when the federal government deregulated air travel in 1978.

If the current trend continues and more airlines have to operate below cost efficiency, safety precautions will invariably begin to suffer. Consumers and commuters must always be vigilant when considering what airline to travel, and make choices based on safety rather than cost.
