Benlate

Although it was first introduced in 1970, benlate gained national notoriety when Dupont recalled the product in 1989 due to the presence of atrazine, a herbicide restricted by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) because of its link to birth defects. Anophthalmia is a medical term that is used to describe the absence of the globe and ocular (eye) tissue from the orbit.

Dupont, which eventually phased out benlate production in late 2001, has reportedly paid out $1 billion in litigation costs over the substance since the early 1990s. The company insists the fungicide is safe, saying production was halted due to overwhelming legal costs. However, DuPont has faced benlate issues since 1991 when growers and farmers first complained that it ravaged fruit orchards, vegetable crops and ornamental plant nurseries nationwide because of a suspected contaminate. Benlate's dangerous side effects to humans gained national notoriety in 2003, when a Florida woman filed suit against Dupont, alleging that prolonged exposure to benzene had led her child to be born with Anopthalmia.

Benlate has a variety of agricultural applications, but it also can lead to devastating afflictions such as Anopthalmia, a tragic and appalling condition that renders the victim sightless from birth. Those who have been denied the gift of sight because of the careless and unscrupulous actions of others must take action immediately. Qualified and compassionate Benlate attorneys will help guide you through the personal injury litigation process; bringing those who chose profit over employee protection to justice.
