PCB
Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are industrial chemicals which were first used in the United States in the late 1920s. They were employed in a variety of applications, including the manufacturing of electrical equipment, hydraulic systems, and several other specialized applications up until the late 1970s.
Among the health affects of PCBs are skin ailments called chloracne, reproductive disorders, liver disease and neurological problems in children. They are resistant to degradation and therefore persist for many years in the environment. Furthermore, PCBs have the capacity to accumulate in the food chain, and are stored in the body fat of animals and humans.
While PCBs have been banned for several decades, their effects are still being felt today. The latency period of some of the diseases and disorders caused by PCBs are extensive (up to 30 years in some studies). As a result, individuals who were exposed in the late 70s may only now be becoming aware of their condition. If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with a condition fostered from exposure to PCBs, it is in your best interest to contact caring and qualified PCB attorneys immediately, as you may be entitled to compensation from the agencies that were responsible for your exposure.
