Aranesp
Approved by the FDA on September 17, 2001, Aranesp is an anti-anemia drug used to combat the side effects of chemotherapy. Chemotherapy often causes anemia because it inhibits the way the body naturally produces red-blood cells. The body uses red blood cells to transport oxygen to organs and tissues, and a lack of these cells can cause fatigue, illness, and even myocardial infarction.
Unfortunately, Aranesp has been linked to potentially life-threatening blood clots, strokes, and cardiac arrest. Many of these clots begin in the lungs, but can quickly travel through the cardiovascular system to the brain or the heart. Drugs similar to Aranesp have been shown to cause severe health problems in higher than average doses, and the FDA ordered Amgen, the company who makes Aranesp, to change the warning labels to reflect this danger.
Many people who take Aranesp are unaware the danger it can cause. Most have already weakened systems due to chemotherapy treatment, and adding a potentially lethal drug into their bodies can is often a prescription for trouble. People deserve to know the risks their medicines pose in order to make an informed choice about their lives.
A drug should never cause more harm than good, so if you or someone you know was injured due to Aranesp, you may have the right to financial restitution for your condition. Consult with a dedicated and experienced defective drug lawyer to discover if you have a case against Amgen. Laws called statutes of limitations restrict the amount of time you have to take action, so you must act quickly. Contact a Aranesp lawyer today.
