Bard Avaulta Mesh FDA Warning
Women in the United States have suffered for decades from two heretofore relatively unknown health conditions that are sometimes the result of natural occurrences that include vaginal childbirth. These two conditions are known as stress urinary incontinence (SUI) and pelvic organ prolapse (POP). Until recently, little was available in terms of medication, strategies, products and procedures designed to help manage these problems, but that has all changed in recent years.
Several companies have come up with and released products that are known as transvaginal mesh products, and one prime example of such a product is Bard’s Avaulta Mesh product. These devices are implanted into the pelvic area of the female patient and are intended to provide support for the pelvic muscles that have been weakened over time.
Unfortunately, recent reports, many of which were generated by the manufacturers of these products, have led to initial action by the FDA designed to warn medical professionals and the public in general about the dangers that have been linked to these products. These issues are described below.
Side Effects for Transvaginal Mesh Products
A few examples of the side effects that have been linked to these products include:
- Erosion through vaginal epithelium
- Infection
- Pain
- Urinary problems
- Recurrence of prolapse and/or incontinence
- Bowel, bladder, and blood vessel perforation during insertion
Any one of these side effects can be a significant problem for any woman who suffers from any of them, especially when one considers the corrective measures that have been identified to date in reaction to this issue:
- Additional surgical procedures
- IV therapy
- Blood transfusions
- Drainage of hematomas or abscesses
As of this writing, more than 1,000 women have reported these sorts of problems with the Bard Avaulta Mesh product and many others, and this sort of rise in troubling health reports is generally what prompts the FDA to get involved, as it has with its public health warning. Simply put, the risks associated with these products now appear in the opinion of many to far outweigh the reward of correcting bladder control problems.
Your next step!
If you or someone you love has suffered as a result of any of these transvaginal mesh products, you need to take action beyond alleviating the health concerns caused by these products. You need to contact a defective medical products attorney as soon as possible to schedule a free initial consultation. You may have legal rights that need to be enforced, but you’ll need the answers an attorney can provide before making that decision. Get that process started today.
