Carbamazepine Lawyer & Lawsuit Information:

Conditions
The use of carbamazepine has come under unfortunate scrutiny in recent weeks based on a discovery that affects patients using it with a certain genetic makeup.  Carbamazepine has been used as a treatment aid for those who suffer from seizures and for those who are bipolar, and for most people, it’s a safe medication.

However, for others, particularly those whose ancestry is Asian in nature, the potential exists for developing two different skin conditions as a result of using carbamazepine.  Below is a brief look at each of these conditions, and if you’ve suffered as a result of using carbamazepine, you need to contact a defective products attorney as soon as possible to schedule an initial consultation.

Stevens Johnson Syndrome (SJS)
Stevens Johnson Syndrome, while generally known as a skin condition, actually involves much more than just the skin.  Generally, a person with SJS experiences a blistering of the mucous membranes, and this blistering usually occurs in the mouth, eyes, vagina and other organs.  The skin rash to which SJS is most often associated is more of the outward presentation of the syndrome.

If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms:

  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Cough
  • Body aches
  • Rash on the skin
  • Spreading of this rash

You could be experiencing the beginning stages of SJS.  SJS is a progressive condition, meaning that if it goes untreated, eventually your organs will suffer damage and you could die as a result.

Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (TEN)
Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (TEN) is also a skin condition that’s closely associated with SJS.  Like SJS, TEN is a progressive skin condition that can ultimately lead to the death of the patient if it goes undiagnosed and untreated.  A few examples of the early symptoms of TEN include:

  • Persistent fever
  • Conjunctivitis
  • Rash
  • Peeling skin
  • Cracked and bleeding lips
  • Extreme pain

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, seek an immediate medical evaluation.  The earlier this condition is diagnosed, the better your chances are for a recovery and a return to normal health.

As you see, the use of carbamazepine by people with certain genetic dispositions can be extremely dangerous.  If you have suffered any sort of injury as a result of using carbamazepine, you need to contact a defective products attorney as soon as possible to schedule an initial consultation.
