Cialis

Cialis is a drug manufactured by Eli Lily & Co. to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) and impotence. First approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2003, Cialis is one of the most prescribed drugs in America, and is taken by five million men each year. Unfortunately, reports began to surface that Cialis caused serious side effects that could drastically affect the men who took it.

The most serious side effect of Cialis use is called Non-Arteritic Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy, or NAION. This condition causes the victim to suffer loss of vision due to irreparable damage to the optic nerve due to restricted blood supply to the eye. The FDA approved a change in Cialis's label on July 11, 2005 to appropriately warn men of the increased danger of blindness.

As of 2006, there have been four reports of vision loss due to use of Cialis, and many experts agree that there will likely be more occurrences of NAION in the weeks and months to come. Without adequate knowledge of the risks, many men will still risk the side effects of Cialis. According to recent trends, doctors will write more Cialis prescriptions this year than ever before, exposing millions of men to potential blindness.
