Epogen
Epogen is a drug used to treat anemia caused by chemotherapy and patients undergoing kidney dialysis due to chronic renal failure. These two procedures can inhibit the way the bone marrow produces red blood cells, and without red blood cells body tissues begin to die as they are slowly starved of oxygen. Epogen allows for the creation of new red blood cells, and is manufactured by Amgen Inc. and is one of the most popular anti-anemia drugs on the market.
Unfortunately, many people who took Epogen began to develop a number of serious and potentially life-threatening side effects. One of the most dangerous side effects is caused when patients with pure red blood cell aplasia or PRCA take Epogen. PRCA causes the body’s white blood cells to attack the bone marrow, and apparently taking Epogen in conjunction with this disease actually makes the problem worse.
Furthermore, Epogen can increase the likelihood of life-threatening blood clots in the lungs and veins. These blood clots can easily travel through the circulatory system to the heart or brain, where they can cause heart attacks, strokes, or heart failure. Other people experienced dangerous seizures within the first 90 days of Epogen treatment. Additionally, some people fail to respond to the drug at all, and suffer from prolonged lethargy and fatigue.
If you or someone you know suffered the ill effects of Epogen use, you may be entitled to financial compensation for your condition. Unfortunately, the statute of limitation laws in your state greatly limit the amount of time you to take action, so if you hesitate you could miss your chance for restitution.
