Femara

Femara is a revolutionary pharmaceutical used to control breast cancer in menopausal women.  It works because it blocks the use of estrogen in certain types of breast cancer caused by certain hormone imbalances and prevents the growth of the cancer.  It also has the side effects of increasing the fertility rates in some women who have had trouble conceiving children.  Some doctors even go so far as to prescribe this drug merely as a fertility treatment.

Unfortunately, Femara was never intended to be used as a conception aid, and consequently there are many unseen problems when it is used in this capacity.  Since the first doctors prescribed the drug to induce ovulation in 2001, Novartis, the company that makes Femara, has received 13 reports of serious pregnancy-related complications, 30% of which dealt with fetal injury and birth defects.

Because Femara was only approved to treat cancer, there have been no real tests to discover its affect on human pregnancy, despite its fertility-increasing side effects.  Animal testing shows that Femara, even in small doses, can cause significant harm to an embryo, fetus, and newborn.  Despite the preliminary data that advises otherwise, doctors and fertility clinics still prescribe Femara for infertile women who want to conceive.

If you or someone you know was injured by Femara, you need to contact a dedicated and compassionate defective drug attorney.  You may be able to collect financial compensation for your pain and suffering, but statute of limitation laws can restrict the amount of time you have to press your case.  Consult a Femara lawyer about your rights today.
