Fen-Phen
The diet drug Fen-Phen was created with two different pharmaceuticals-fenfluramine and phentermine. Fen-Phen was used as an anti-obesity prescription medication and became very popular, but was withdrawn from the market by the FDA in 1997. Among women, serious health risks were linked to the use of Fen-Phen.
Fen-Phen is a combination of two drugs called fenfluramine and phentermine that were used to combat obesity through appetite suppression. The drug combination was widely popular in the 1990s, as many people flocked to it as a miracle cure to the obesity epidemic that affects so many people to this day.
Unfortunately, Fen-Phen was allegedly responsible for causing a number of very serious health problems, including heart-valve disease and pulmonary hypertension. Although side effects can occur with any drug, the makers of Fen-Phen were alleged to have taken part in a conspiracy to cover up the potentially fatal side effects in order to capitalize on the popularity of the drug.
