Lamisil
Lamisil is a popular antifungal drug manufactured by Novartis Pharmaceutical designed to combat yellowing and cracking common with many toenail fungi. Unfortunately, not only is the drug prohibitively expensive, but it can also cause hepatoxicity and liver damage in people with liver problems. The Food and Drug Administration recently warned doctors and patients of this potential problem, as well as requested a change in label of the packaging of Lamisil to reflect this new danger.
Unfortunately, the FDA notes there have been 16 separate incidents of Lamisil-related liver failures since 2001, including 11 deaths and two liver transplants. These affects are associated with the pill form of Lamisil, rather than the topical cream version. Furthermore, there are also reports of patients given the wrong medication due to confusion over the similarities of Lamisil and an anti-epileptic drug called Lamictal.
Even though Novartis changed the labeling of Lamisil, the drug manages causes to cause harm to this day. Many people taking the drug could have developed serious liver complications, but do not have any obvious symptoms. This situation is particularly dangerous because early detection of liver problems can prevent serious complications later on. Doctors recommend that at-risk patients have blood tests to ensure proper liver function.
If you or someone you know was injured due to the side effects of Lamisil, you may have the right to take legal action against those responsible for your condition. If you hesitate, the statute of limitations in your state could end your case before it has a chance to begin, and you could lose out on the financial compensation you deserve.
