Procrit

Procrit is a drug designed to treat chemotherapy or renal failure-induced anemia.  These two conditions can cause the body to fail to produce the requisite amount of red blood cells the body needs to survive, and without enough red blood cells tissues cannot get the oxygen they need to undergo cellular respiration.  Without cellular respiration, tissues begin to die.

While Procrit can help some people to overcome the side effects of these dangerous conditions, the drug can also cause a number of serious side effects.  Procrit should not be used on patients with leukemia, because their bone marrows are already compromised by the disease, and patients with high blood pressure should be extremely wary of the changes the drug can cause.

Perhaps the most dangerous side effects of Procrit are the conditions called red blood cell aplasia and aplastic anemia. Red blood cell aplasia causes the bone marrow to fail to produce the cells that will go on to become red blood cells, while aplastic anemia prevents the bone marrow from producing white blood cells and platelets as well as red blood cells.  Victims of these conditions require constant blood transfusions in order to replenish their supply of red blood cells that their body can no longer generate.

There is never an excuse for a drug to cause more harm than good.  If you are the victim of the side effects of Procrit, or you know someone who has suffered injury or loss because of it, you need to consult a lawyer immediately.  You could be entitled to take legal action against those responsible, but if you hesitate the statute of limitations laws in your state could restrict the time you have to press your case.  Contact a Procrit lawyer today.
