Ritalin
Ritalin is a popular attention deficit hyperactive disorder drug (ADHD) currently under investigation by the Food and Drug Administration’s Pediatric Advisory Committee in order to determine the likelihood of certain severe side effects on the children who take it. Recent reports indicate that Ritalin causes some children to begin to suffer hallucination or exhibit certain psychotic, violent, aggressive, or even suicidal behavior.
Additionally, medical experts now suspect that Ritalin may be a significant factor in cancer in a small number of children. A recent study conducted by scientists from the University of Texas and the M.D. Cancer Center found a link between Ritalin use and chromosome damage in 12 children. Further studies are underway to determine if there is a concrete link between Ritalin use and cancer events in children.
Some other serious side effects of Ritalin include headaches, sleep disturbances, abdominal pain, and loss of appetite. In fact, because Ritalin use increased 500% between 1991 and 1999 to more than 29 million prescriptions in 2004, many health and diet experts believe that many children are malnourished or suffer from stunted growth in generations to come.
Although Ritalin may seem like a safe drug, more and more doctors and health experts now question common thinking about the wisdom of prescribing without understanding its effects. If you or someone you know was injured by Ritalin, you may have the right to take legal action against those responsible for your condition. Let a dedicated and experienced Ritalin attorney help you discover your rights and get the restitution you deserve today.
