Tequin
Tequin is a popular antibiotic used to treat adults with lung, sinus, urinary tract infections as well as some sexually transmitted diseases. Tequin is in the same group of antibiotics as Cipro, Levaquin, and Avelox. Developed by Bristol Myers Squibb and approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 1999, and doctors wrote over 20 million prescriptions by 2006, and about 5,000 new prescriptions are written every day.
Unfortunately, recent studies reveal that Tequin is responsible for a number of blood sugar abnormalities and diabetes than patients using other antibiotics. In fact, Tequin patients were 17 times more likely to develop diabetes and four times more likely to need hospitalization. Bristol Myers Squibb only changed the packaging for Tequin in 2002, three years after it was released, but there are no serious plans for a black box warning, which is the FDA’s strongest consumer warning label.
Furthermore, Tequin has been linked to disturbing incidents of severe tendon ruptures, allergic reactions, diarrhea, seizures, psychosis, and cardiovascular incidents. Tequin has already been linked to 16 deaths by 2006, but is still on the market and available to injure more innocent people.
If you or someone you know took Tequin and suffered the ill effects of the drug’s side effects, you could be entitled to take legal action against those responsible. You must act quickly, for there are time limits on how long you can pursue your case. Let a dedicated, experienced, and compassionate lawyer help you discover your rights and get you the compensation you deserve. Contact a Tequin lawyer today.
