Zoloft
In 2003, the Food and Drug Administration alerted Pfizer, Inc. that its popular anti-depressant Zoloft could potentially cause some people to experience severe suicidal thoughts and behavior. Children, teenagers, and young adults are particularly prone to suicidal tendencies.
Zoloft is thought to be the likely factor in a number of childhood suicides, and the FDA recommended new package warnings to alert doctors and parents to a the increased risk of dangerous behavior, or as the advisory panel put it “carefully monitor patients receiving antidepressants for possible worsening of depression or suicidal thoughts, especially at the beginning of therapy or when the dose either decreases or increases.”
Furthermore, antidepressants like Zoloft are now associated with increased death rates in patients with existing heart disease. A Duke University study indicated that after three years of treatment, patients who suffered from heart disease and took medications like Zoloft died at a rate of 21.4% compared to 12.5% of those who did not take antidepressants. Aside from other mitigating factors, antidepressant drugs increased the risk of death by 62%.
If you or someone you love was injured due to Zoloft, you may have the right to claim compensation for your pain and suffering. You must act quickly, for laws called statutes of limitations greatly restrict the amount of time you have to press your case, and if you wait too long, you could lose your right to financial compensation. Let a dedicated and experienced defective drug attorney help you discover your rights and get you the restitution you deserve.
