Zometa
Zometa, manufactured by Novartis, is a drug designed to treat the debilitating and devastating symptoms of osteoporosis. Unfortunately, Zometa has been tied to a number of serious side effects, including a condition called Osteonecrosis of the Jaw, or ONJ. Victims of this side effect suffer painful and tender teeth, gums, and jaws, and many times even routine dental work is extremely difficult. In advanced cases complete removal of the jaw is necessary.
The Food and Drug Administration expressed concern over the number of cases of ONJ caused by Zometa, which reached 875 between December 2002 and February 2005. Zometa was introduced into the American drug market in 2001, and proceed to earn Novartis over$1 billion in sales.
Zometa is mainly used to treat bone degeneration in patients who suffer from prostrate cancer and multiple myeloma. Patients with multiple myeloma are most likely to develop ONJ than others. Furthermore, Zometa is known to cause significant reduction of renal function in a number of cases. Zometa is also used to treat the pain caused by malignant bone metastases, as well as hyper calcemia.
If you or someone you love was the victim of ONJ or other side effects of Zometa, you need to consult a dedicated and experienced lawyer immediately. You could be entitled to financial compensation for your pain and suffering, but if you hesitate the statute of limitation laws in your state could end your case before it has a chance to begin. Contact a Zometa attorney and get started on your case today.
