Olympus Bronchoscope Attorney
A flaw in the design of the Olympus Bronchoscope was allegedly responsible for bacterial infections that killed two people and injured 16 others. A bronchoscope is a camera attached to a small, pencil thin cable that doctors use to inspect the lungs for any problems or infections. Unfortunately, a manufacturing defect in the cap on the top of the device could cause it to detach during the procedure, creating a niche easily missed during post-exam disinfection.
There were outbreaks of bacterial infection throughout medical facilities, and many people who went in for simple lung tests were found to have developed serious and potentially life-threatening infections of the P. aeruginosa bacterium. Most of the people who developed this infection already had weakened lungs due to AIDS, cystic fibrosis, lung cancer, or recent lung transplants, so any further lung damage was particularly devastating.
Unfortunately, the response of Olympus American was too slow to prevent further damage caused by their bronchoscope. Anyone who had a bronchoscopy procedure between June 1, 2001 and February 4, 2002 is at risk of developing a potentially fatal lung infection. It is not known how many long term infections caused by this manufacturer’s defect have yet to produce symptoms.
If you or someone you love was caused undue harm because of the Olympus Bronchoscope you may be entitled to seek legal action to help claim damages based on your pain and suffering. You need to act quickly, for the statute of limitation laws restrict the amount of time you have to pursue your case. Let a dedicated and experienced defective medical device attorney represent you and get you the compensation you deserve today.
