Baxter Dialysis Filter Attorney

Baxter International Inc. announced on November 5, 2001 that recalled dialysis filters may have contributed to the deaths of a number people under investigation in several countries around the world. In order to prevent further harm and injury, Baxter has ceased production in two factories and set aside $150 million in preparation for potential litigation.

The filters were recalled in the middle of October 2001 because a testing chemical in the manufacturing process may have been responsible in many of the fatalities. This fluid, known as chemical solution 5070, is used to test for leaks in the filters, and significant amounts of it remained in the filters when they were packaged and distributed to clinics and hospitals around the world.

The Food and Drug Administration believes that 51 deaths around the world are directly attributable to bloodstream contamination by solution 5070. There have already been four deaths in the United States, and health experts believe that there will be many more in the following years, as contaminated filters continue to replace older filters. This could place the deaths caused by this filter into the hundreds, if not thousands.

If you or someone you know was injured due to a Baxter Inc. dialysis filter, you may be entitled to financial compensation for your pain and suffering. You need to act quickly, for statutes of limitations restrict how much time you have to present your case. Let a dedicated and experienced defective medical device attorney represent you and fight for the restitution you deserve.
