RECALL UPDATE ON EASY BAKE OVEN:

Recalled for the second time in less than a year, government safety advocates announced on Thursday that Hasbro recalled 985,000 Easy Bake Oven toys. Reports of children getting their hands stuck in the front opening resulting in burns.

After the February recall the company has received 249 reports of injury including 16 reports of second and third degree burns. One child’s burns were so severe that the 5 year olds finger had to be amputated.

Feb 2007: Breaking news about the potential dangers of Easy-Bake Oven!

The smell of cake baking by light bulb is one of the fondest memories of many adults. But what happens when those memories are not of a tasty treat, warm from the oven, but of terror, misery, and suffering? The Easy-Bake Oven is causing tons of children to suffer just these types of injuries, of burns that will char their delicate skin and inflict injuries that will linger with them for decades to come.

The reality is that Hasbro, Inc., recalled 985,000 Easy-Bake Ovens on February 6, 2007, because of the propensity of young children to put their hands inside the oven, potentially getting their hands stuck and burning them on the light bulb inside. As of February 13, 2007, five children have suffered burns due to the design of this product, but many experts speculate that there will most likely be more injuries due to the innate curiosity and lack of foresight on the part of children.

The items affected by this recall are the Easy-Bake Oven that is purple and pink, has four burners on the top and a front-loading oven slot that serves as the main entrance for the food to be cooked. The model number is 65805 with "Hasbro" stamped into the plastic on the back of the oven. The Easy-Bake Oven cooks through the power of a common light bulb, and is not recommended for children under the age of eight. Any ovens sold before May 2006 are not part of this product recall.
